Stanwell owns and operates the leading coal-fired power stations in Queensland. The Tarong and Stanwell power stations have played a critical role in meeting the state’s energy needs for more than 40 and 30 years respectively. They are flagship contributors to the current electricity grid providing almost 35% of the current energy needs of Queensland. We also recover and reuse waste from these stations to support a circular economy across other industries.
Our assets are operated, maintained and managed by a dedicated team working around the clock to deliver affordable, reliable electricity to Queenslanders and local businesses.

ELECTRICITY MAINTENANCE GUARANTEE
The Queensland Government introduced the Electricity Maintenance Guarantee (EMG) in 2025 to provide safe, secure and reliable electricity supply, through the prioritisation of financial and non-financial performance of Stanwell’s portfolio of thermal generation assets. The EMG is backed by key performance indicator (KPI) targets linked to executive incentive performance payments.
Stanwell successfully achieved all FY25 KPI targets across personal safety, process safety, operational performance and capital investment.

CURRENT RENEWABLE GENERATION
Stanwell’s pipeline of renewable energy projects is growing steadily – and to support this, we’re already supplying customers with renewable electricity through a range of Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs).
These agreements are a key part of our evolving generation mix as we build a portfolio of firmed renewable energy. New PPAs are coming online each year. You can explore them further under ENERGY PROJECTS In Construction.
OUR CURRENT RENEWABLE GENERATION IS PROVIDED BY:
- Blue Grass Solar Farm - 49 MW
- Longreach Solar Farm - 17.4 MW
- Oakey Solar Farm - 25 MW
- Whitsunday Solar Farm - 57.5 MW
- Kidston Solar Farm - 50 MW
